There was a mild drama at the National Assembly Complex involving the Minister of Women Affairs, Barr. Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, and the Committee on Women Affairs over the alleged diversion of 1.5 billion naira intended for contractor payments by officials of the ministry.
The incident took place during an investigative hearing by the Committee.
The face-off began when the Minister was questioned about the expenditure of funds meant for contractors, which had been disbursed by the Accountant General’s Office to her Ministry.
Mrs. Kennedy stated that although 30 percent of the funds had been allocated to her Ministry, she could not provide a detailed account of how it was spent.
She cited advice from the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to focus on her duties as the reason for not being able to provide specifics.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has announced a one-million-naira bounty for the capture of 62-year-old Magnus Okpalannadi.
Okpalannadi, a resident of Onitsha in Anambra State, is accused of sexually assaulting his three-year-old daughter over a period of time.
In a statement, Barrister Kennedy-Ohanenye emphasized that the federal government intends to make an example of Okpalannadi, using his case as a deterrent to other potential sexual offenders.
