A Bill proposing the establishment of Tiga State from Kano State has successfully passed its first reading in the Senate. Senator Kawu Abdurrahman, representing Kano South Senatorial District, presented the Bill on Wednesday.
Titled the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Alteration) Creation of Tiga State Bill, 2024 (SB.523),” the Legislation aims to create a new State within the Nigerian Federation.
This development comes after the Senate was recently presented with a similar bill for the creation of Anioma State in the South-East, sponsored by Delta North Senator Ned Nwoko.
The goal is to ensure parity among Nigeria’s Geopolitical Zones, aligning them with the existing six-state structure.
