The English Football Association has confirmed that Mason Greenwood has decided to switch his international allegiance from England and will now represent Jamaica.
Greenwood, who has been working to revive his career at Marseille after leaving Manchester United last year, made the decision following a suspension related to charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and controlling and coercive behavior. These charges were dropped when key witnesses withdrew and new evidence emerged, indicating there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.
At just 23 years old, Greenwood has earned only one cap for England, which came in September 2020. Former England manager Gareth Southgate had previously downplayed the possibility of a national team recall for Greenwood after the charges were dismissed.
Thomas Tuchel is set to announce his first England squad on March 14, but Greenwood will not be included as he finalizes his registration with Jamaica, where his father was born.
