Manchester City midfielder, Matheus Nunes, has reportedly been arrested in Madrid on suspicion of stealing a mobile phone at a nightclub.
The 26-year-old Portuguese international was allegedly detained in the early hours of September 8 at La Riviera, a popular nightclub in the Spanish capital.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 5:30 am when Nunes, who was spending the weekend with friends, was accused of taking a phone from a 58-year-old man who had attempted to photograph him without permission in the nightclub’s restroom.
Nunes reportedly became angry, seized the device, and refused to return it. The man contacted police, who later found the phone in Nunes’ possession.
The midfielder, formerly of Wolves, was taken to a police station in the Arganzuela neighborhood, where he was questioned and later released after a lawyer intervened.
A spokesperson for the National Police in Madrid confirmed the arrest, stating, “I can confirm a Portuguese national was arrested in the early hours of September 8 at a Madrid nightclub on suspicion of stealing another person’s mobile phone.”
Despite the ongoing investigation, Nunes remains eligible for selection at Manchester City and played in the team’s 4-0 Champions League win against Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday. City’s next match is a Premier League clash against Fulham on Saturday.
