The abductors of the Chairman of Jezco Group, Chief Sir Joseph Ezeokafor, have reportedly increased their ransom demand to ₦1.5 billion for his release.
A source said to be close to the family disclosed that the kidnappers initially requested ₦700 million after establishing contact with Ezeokafor’s relatives.
The family reportedly agreed to the initial demand as part of efforts to secure his freedom, but the abductors later increased the amount to ₦1.5 billion.
According to the source, the family remained open to negotiations, but communication with the kidnappers has since stalled, with attempts to re-establish contact reportedly unsuccessful.
Ezeokafor was abducted in Anambra State after reportedly leaving his residence at about 2 a.m. for a prayer ground as part of his annual spiritual activities.

The incident has generated concern among members of his family, associates and community as efforts continue to secure his release.
The Anambra State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the abduction or the reported ransom demand.
