Domestic dispute in Daura ends in tragedy as 30-year-old woman dies from knife wounds
Police in Katsina State have arrested a 25-year-old housewife, Rabi’a Labaran, on suspicion of stabbing her co-wife, Zainab Lawal, to death during a violent altercation in Daura town.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of May 24 in the Sabon Gari area, behind Dadi Primary School, after a domestic dispute between the two women escalated fatally.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Sadiq, the husband, Nasir Yusuf, alerted the Sabon Gari Police Division after returning home from the market to find his first wife, Zainab Lawal, 30, in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
Officers responded promptly, and the victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Daura, where she was declared dead by medical personnel.
Police said the suspect, Labaran—also a resident of the same household—was taken into custody shortly after. During interrogation, she confessed to the crime, explaining that a misunderstanding between the co-wives escalated into a physical fight that resulted in the fatal stabbing.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemned the act and called on the public to refrain from all forms of domestic violence. He urged residents to seek lawful and peaceful avenues to resolve disputes.
“Taking the law into one’s hands only leads to further tragedy and undermines the justice system,” Shehu said.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
