The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered a tactical squad to remain stationed at local government secretariats in Osun State following the ongoing political crisis over council control.
The crisis escalated after Governor Ademola Adeleke swore in chairmen elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), despite an Appeal Court ruling favoring the All Progressives Congress (APC). The APC, which withdrew from the election, insists that its previously sacked chairmen remain in office and has vowed to block PDP officials from accessing council funds.
In a bid to prevent clashes, Governor Adeleke has directed the newly elected officials to stay away from the secretariats. However, security operatives will remain on the ground to maintain order and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The deployment of the tactical squad underscores the police’s commitment to preventing violence and maintaining peace amid the political tension in Osun State.
