The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Park Management Service to collaborate with its Cameroonian counterparts to address the issue of rampaging elephants invading farmlands and causing fatalities in Cross River State.
This resolution followed a motion of urgent national importance sponsored by Hon. Victor Abang. The lawmaker highlighted that between January 6th to 15th and from February 8th to date, wild elephants have ravaged villages, killing residents and destroying economic trees and crops worth millions of naira.
Expressing concern over the loss of lives and the disruption of economic activities, Hon. Abang called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide immediate relief to affected citizens.
The House emphasized the need for a coordinated effort between Nigeria and Cameroon to contain the elephants and prevent further damage to lives and livelihoods.
