Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has charged contractors handling state projects to take full advantage of the dry season to accelerate project completion, transforming the state into an active construction hub during the period.
Speaking at a special meeting with 41 contractors at Government House, Uyo, the governor announced that funds had been disbursed and assured that a monitoring team would visit project sites to assess progress and compliance.
Governor Eno emphasized the importance of maintaining productivity during the festive season, urging contractors to prioritize work over celebrations. He advised them to adopt 24-hour construction shifts to ensure timely delivery.
“We understand our terrain where rains persist till December, leaving a limited window for construction. Contractors must remain on-site during this period to avoid delays and cost escalations in the new year,” the governor said.
He cautioned contractors against abandoning sites during Christmas festivities, stressing that released funds should only be used for ongoing work. “If your company plans to shut down for the holidays, do not take this money. Notify us instead,” he added.
Highlighting the statewide distribution of the projects, Governor Eno encouraged contractors to engage local labor and fulfill their corporate social responsibilities. He reassured them of the government’s readiness to support their efforts for effective and timely project delivery.
The Managing Director of Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko, speaking on behalf of the contractors, expressed gratitude for the prompt fund disbursement and the opportunity to contribute to the state’s development. He assured the governor of their commitment to meeting expectations.
The governor’s directive underscores his administration’s focus on infrastructure development and timely project execution across all local government areas in Akwa Ibom State.
