Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has suspended three senior public officials in line with resolutions passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.
Those affected are the Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Council, Maxwell Ogiri; the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Grace Adagba; and the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission, Michael Uper.
A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the suspension takes immediate effect and will last for one month.
Governor Alia explained that the decision was taken in compliance with the legislature’s directive, noting that his administration is committed to upholding the rule of law, due process, and the principle of separation of powers. He commended the Assembly for exercising its constitutional mandate and reassured the people of Benue that governance would continue without disruption.
He also directed the affected institutions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery during the suspension period.
However, while the governor’s action aligns with the lawmakers’ resolution, it slightly differs from the Assembly’s initial directive, which had recommended a six-month suspension for Dr. Adagba.
