World football’s governing body, FIFA, has lifted its suspension of Congo-Brazzaville from international football after key conditions were met.
The sanction was originally imposed in February due to third-party interference in the operations of the country’s football association, Fecofoot.
At the time, FIFA described the situation as “particularly serious,” citing undue influence that constituted a clear violation of Fecofoot’s obligations under the organisation’s statutes.
As a result, Congo’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Tanzania and Zambia, scheduled for March, were postponed.
One of the main conditions for lifting the suspension was the restoration of full control of Fecofoot’s headquarters and other facilities to its executive committee.
It remains unclear whether the two postponed World Cup qualifiers will be rescheduled.
The final four matches of the group stage are set to take place in September and October, with the African play-offs scheduled for November.
