FG Warns Against Politicizing Tragic Stampedes, Emphasizes Safety in Charity Events

Date:

The Federal Government has cautioned against politicizing recent tragic stampedes that claimed multiple lives during food distribution exercises in Ibadan, Abuja, and Okija, dismissing claims that the incidents were tied to President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.

In a statement on Sunday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, described attempts to link the tragedies to government policies as baseless and misleading, noting that similar events had occurred under previous administrations.

He emphasized that Tinubu’s economic reforms aim to foster sustainable growth while prioritizing the welfare of vulnerable citizens.

Idris expressed the administration’s sorrow over the incidents, extending condolences to the victims’ families and stressing the need for enhanced safety measures during charity events.

He urged organizers of such activities to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure proper crowd management and prevent further tragedies.

The minister also called on citizens to embrace collective responsibility, ensuring the festive season remains a time of peace and safety. He appealed to event organizers to adhere to safety protocols and prioritize lives in all charitable activities.
