The Federal Government has introduced new standards and guidelines for establishing and coordinating organ and tissue transplantation services in Nigeria. The initiative aims to enhance transparency, accountability, and adherence to international best practices while offering hope to patients in need.
Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, announced the development during the official launch of the document at the ministry’s corporate headquarters in Abuja. According to a statement by the Director of Press and Information, Mr. Alaba Balogun, the document—validated on November 13, 2024—marks a significant milestone in improving organ donation and transplantation practices in the country.
Represented by the Director of the Hospital Services Department, Dr. Salahudeen Jimoh, the minister highlighted that the guidelines result from extensive collaboration among healthcare professionals, legal experts, professional bodies, media organizations, and other stakeholders.
