The Federal Government has announced plans to recover all unremitted funds owed to the Federation by individuals and corporate entities, as part of efforts to boost national revenue and strengthen fiscal governance.
The initiative was disclosed on Monday during the formal inauguration of consultants for the Revenue Recovery Exercise, held at the headquarters of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) in Abuja. The event was attended by RMAFC Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shehu, Special Adviser to the President on Revenue Matters and Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, among other top officials.
Dr. Shehu reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to ensure that all revenues due to the Federation are fully accounted for and remitted into the Federation Account.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is transparently remitted,” he stated.
He explained that the engagement of consultants represents a strategic effort to plug revenue leakages, enhance transparency, and improve the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“In line with the constitutional responsibility of the Commission, and with the full support of Mr. President and the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, as well as the Executive Chairman of the FIRS, this initiative for spatial recovery projects to identify and recover unremitted revenues across sectors of the economy was brought into light,” Dr. Shehu added.
Representing the FIRS Chairman, the Coordinating Director, Shettima Tamadi, commended the RMAFC for its leadership and pledged the Service’s support in achieving the goals of the recovery drive.
“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve sustainable fiscal growth,” Tamadi said.
The Secretary to the Commission, Joseph Okechukwu, urged the consultants to work diligently within the six-month timeframe and ensure that all recoverable revenues are promptly remitted to the Federation Account to fund national development priorities.
Speaking on behalf of the consultants, Temitayo Ojeleke described the engagement as a “national call to duty,” assuring that his team would deliver the task with professionalism, transparency, and measurable outcomes.
“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s economic renewal, ready to deliver results that will strengthen the nation’s revenue base,” Ojeleke said.
The inauguration marks a major step in RMAFC’s efforts to deepen inter-agency collaboration, enhance accountability, and maximise revenue generation for the collective benefit of the Federation.
