The Federal Government has disclosed that N15 billion out of the N18 billion allocated for the first phase of compensation to property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project has been disbursed. This was revealed during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos by Mr. Bede Obioha, Director of Federal Highways, Bridges, and Design.
Obioha confirmed that the total compensation package for Section 1 of the 47.7-kilometer stretch exceeds N18 billion. He assured stakeholders that the government is committed to ensuring that all eligible property owners receive their due compensation.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, announced that 30 kilometers of the 70-kilometer first phase of the highway will be inaugurated in May 2025. He also assured that eligible property owners in Section 1 would receive their full compensation within 10 days.
Engr. Umahi emphasized transparency in the compensation process, pledging to publish detailed information while acknowledging ongoing legal challenges. He also confirmed that N10 billion will be disbursed by mid-March for compensation in the Lekki Free Trade Zone to Eleko area under the tax credit arrangement with the Dangote Group.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project is a key infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting economic development and connectivity across the region.
