Fed. Govt clarifies NIN is mandatory for foreign diplomats residents in Nigeria

The Federal Government says National Identity Number is mandatory for foreign diplomats who will reside in Nigeria for a continuous period of two years or more.

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Doctor Isa Pantami in a statement by his Technical Assistant, Doctor Femi Adeluyi, said an enrolment center has been established for the foreign diplomats at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement said the desk will be set up on Tuesday, the nineteenth of January, 2021.

It stated that the enrolment center will provide support for members of the Diplomatic Corps and will be managed by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, through the National Identity Management Commission.

 Meanwhile, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Doctor Isa Pantami, has approved the reactivation of twenty centers within the Federal Capital Territory to ease the process of enrollment for the National Identification Number.

The reactivation is expected to commence on Monday.

The Minister has also endorsed the closure of enrolment activities at the National Identity Management Commission Headquarters in Abuja.
