FCT MINISTER APPROVES IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW N70,000 MINIMUM WAGE FOR FCT STAFF

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate payment of the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage to all staff under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA). This follows the signing of the new Minimum Wage Bill into law by President Bola Tinubu in May 2024, after extensive negotiations with organized labour.

The approval was announced in a statement released on Tuesday by Mr. Anthony Odeh, the Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT.

According to the statement, Barr Wike approved the payment on Monday, November 18, 2024, as part of efforts to alleviate the financial challenges faced by workers in the capital territory.

The Acting Head of Civil Service of the FCT, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, also revealed that the minister authorized the payment of three months’ arrears to all administration staff, effective from November 2024.

This move is expected to provide additional financial relief to FCT workers as they adjust to the new wage structure.

The implementation of the new minimum wage underscores the FCT Administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workforce and aligning with the federal government’s directives.
