EFCC Warns Public About Fake TikTok Accounts Impersonating the Agency

Date:

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has alerted the public about fraudulent activities involving fake TikTok accounts impersonating the agency. In a statement issued by EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale, the Commission clarified that it does not operate an official TikTok account and warned against falling victim to scams orchestrated by fraudsters.

Oyewale revealed that the fraudsters organized a live session on TikTok using the EFCC’s logo and other insignia to mislead and defraud unsuspecting individuals. The scammers created six fake accounts, all bearing the Commission’s logo and names of non-existent directorates, to lend credibility to their fraudulent activities.

“The EFCC does not operate a TikTok account. Members of the public are advised to disregard any such account bearing the insignia of the Commission,” Oyewale stated. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious accounts or activities to the EFCC for immediate action.

The Commission’s warning comes as part of its efforts to combat cybercrime and protect citizens from online scams. The EFCC reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the public from fraudulent schemes and ensuring the integrity of its operations.
