A fatal accident on the Ugwu-Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway has claimed the lives of more than six people after a truck carrying foodstuffs lost control and overturned. The incident occurred yesterday at about 8 a.m., according to Mr. Franklin Agbakoba, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State.
Agbakoba explained that the truck, which was transporting vegetables, fruits, and a few traders, was speeding when it lost control and overturned. Upon receiving a distress call, FRSC personnel rushed to the scene and rescued three victims, who were taken to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, for treatment.
The Sector Commander described the crash as a lone accident involving only the truck, attributing it to excessive speed and brake failure. He urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent such tragedies.
The FRSC has intensified efforts to promote road safety and reduce accidents on major highways. However, this incident underscores the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and increased awareness among drivers.
