Governing party warns against planned demonstrations it claims aim to disrupt state peace
BENIN CITY — The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a security alert regarding what it describes as “orchestrated protests” planned across parts of the state this week. In a statement released Wednesday, the party alleged the demonstrations are being sponsored by opposition elements rather than arising from genuine public grievances.
“The pattern of misinformation circulating ahead of these planned protests reveals their true purpose – not constructive engagement but deliberate attempts to incite unrest,” the APC statement read. While affirming citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly, the party insisted it had identified specific PDP leaders and groups allegedly behind what it called “a plot to undermine Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration.”
Key points from the APC alert:
- Security agencies placed on high alert across the state
- Call for parents and community leaders to discourage participation
- Assurance of government’s readiness to maintain order
- Offer of official channels for addressing genuine concerns
Governor Okpebholo’s administration reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that “no individual or group will be allowed to destabilize Edo’s peace.” The statement urged residents to remain calm and continue their normal activities while supporting government development initiatives.
