Dickson Ndiema, the former boyfriend of Ugandan Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, has died from burns sustained in an attack that he perpetrated.
Ndiema, who ambushed Cheptegei as she returned home from church over a week ago, doused her with petrol and set her on fire.
Local authorities reported that Ndiema and Cheptegei had been involved in a dispute over a small piece of land in north-west Kenya, where Cheptegei lived and trained.
Ndiema succumbed to his injuries on Monday night while being treated in the intensive care unit, having suffered burns over more than 30% of his body.
Cheptegei, who had been critically injured in the attack, passed away last Thursday after sustaining burns on 80% of her body.
