DEMOCRACY DAY: Labour Calls For Social Justice, Leaving Wage For Workers

Date:

As Nigeria marks its 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, the Nigeria Labour Congress has called for a stronger democratic nation that is based on equity and guarantees prosperity to the majority of its citizenry.

In a statement signed by the Acting President of NLC, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, labour applauds the President’s commitment to fine democratic ideals which allowed the work of the Tripartite National Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee to proceed unhindered.

However, Labour had expected the President to have harmonize the two figures submitted to him by the Tripartite Committee in favour of workers and masses, as this would have been a fitting democracy day gift.

The statement further reiterated labour’s unreadiness to accept any national minimum wage that is not in conformity with the present economic realities.

Labour appeals to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to show that he listens to Nigerians as he promised, by signing a befitting national minimum wage into law.

Labour added that it remains assured that the President’s Democratic credentials will come to the fore in favour of Nigerian workers and the masses.
