The national grid has collapsed for the second time in three days, plunging numerous regions into darkness and highlighting persistent challenges with Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
This is the 12th grid failure in the past 11 months, intensifying concerns about the reliability of the country’s power supply.
According to data from the Nigerian System Operator’s portal (niggrid.org), power generation dropped to zero megawatts at approximately 11:30 a.m., affecting all 22 power generation companies nationwide.
Several electricity distribution companies confirmed the collapse on social media, including the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), which serves parts of Lagos.
In a statement posted on X, IKEDC notified customers: “Please be informed that we experienced a system outage today, 07 November 2024, at 11:29Hrs affecting supply within our network. Restoration of supply is ongoing in collaboration with our critical stakeholders. Kindly bear with us.”
Efforts to restore power are reportedly in progress as stakeholders work to address the latest setback in Nigeria’s ongoing battle with grid stability.
