This follows a letter from the President seeking the National Assembly’s approval for the emergency rule, which was read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during a plenary session on Thursday.
President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months. The move was in response to the prolonged political crisis that has rocked the state.
During the plenary session, the lawmakers overwhelmingly backed the President’s decision through a voice vote. Speaker Abbas confirmed that 240 lawmakers attended the session, ensuring a quorum for the vote.
