The High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Delivering the judgment on Wednesday, Justice Simon Aboki found Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide, having killed and dismembered the victim. The judge ruled that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Ajayi was convicted on one count of culpable homicide, which is contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria and carries a mandatory death sentence.
The case had drawn public outrage following the gruesome murder of Adaidu, who was serving in Nasarawa State at the time of her death.
With this ruling, Justice Aboki affirmed the court’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes, particularly those in vulnerable groups such as youth corps members.
