At least 180,000 vulnerable households in Niger State are set to benefit from the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Economic Shocks Response Initiative, receiving N75,000 each to cushion the effects of current economic challenges.
The disclosure was made by Malam Sulaiman Kpange, Programme Manager of the National Cash Transfer Office in Niger, during the distribution of 19,000 debit cards to beneficiaries in Paiko Local Government Area on Wednesday.
According to Kpange, the initiative is part of the Federal Government’s targeted efforts to mitigate the impact of recent economic shocks, particularly those arising from the removal of fuel subsidies.
“The objective is to support vulnerable Nigerians through direct financial intervention. So far, more than 50,000 individuals across the state’s 25 local government areas have received their debit cards,” he said.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected from the National Social Register and Rapid Response Register, including individuals who had applied during earlier phases of the programme.
To qualify, beneficiaries must present a valid national identity card, which is required to activate and receive the debit card.
Kpange expressed gratitude to both the Federal Government and the Niger State Government for their logistical support, which enabled smooth distribution and beneficiary enrollment.
Some recipients, including Bahago Musa and Hadiza Nawa, expressed appreciation for the intervention.
“We are grateful for the support given to us by the Federal Government,” one of the beneficiaries said.
The Renewed Hope Economic Shocks Response Initiative is part of the broader national strategy to provide direct cash assistance to low-income families struggling under the weight of recent economic reforms, particularly those affecting fuel pricing and household costs.
