MINISTER OF EDUCATION ADAMU ADAMU EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER LACK OF COMPETENT TEACHERS.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, stated that 37 trade subjects, which were being offered as compulsory subjects in schools, lacked skilled teachers.

He was speaking at a National Workshop on “Repositioning Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through policy and legislative options for National development in Abuja.

The Minister, represented by Mr Masa’udu Kazaure, the immediate past Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) commended the German Ngo (GIZ) for creating opportunity to reflect on the road travelled over the past decade and to plan for the journey ahead.

He also commended the context of skill development for the citizenry through sustainable policies and legislation.

Mallam Adamu added that the Ministry had taken far reaching measures on policy formulation and programme implementation to provide recipe for youths to survive in today’s harsh economic environment to encourage the youths to be job creators instead of “certificate-carrying job-seekers.

He called for more interventions in the area of special fund for TVET, just as we have Tefund for vocational training to move forward in the Country.

PRESIDENT BUHARI URGES STAKEHOLDERS IN AFRICA TO UNITE TO ATTAIN POST-COVID-19 RECOVERY.

President Muhammadu Buhari says that for Africa to attain the high level of Post-Covid-19 Recovery recorded in more developed economies, stakeholders in the continent must unite to produce vaccines locally. 

 

The President, represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, made the observation at the opening of the 51st Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, in Abuja. 

 

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Office of the Vice President Laolu Akande, reflected the President’s speech in a statement.

 

On the issue of climate change, the President said it is another area in which Global Development is impacting Africa, and needs a unified response.

ATTORNEY GENERAL OF FEDERATION DISTANCES SELF FROM SUSPECT ARRESTED OVER SIEGE ON MARY ODILI RESIDENCE.

Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has distanced himself from the suspect arrested in connection with the invasion of the Abuja residence of Supreme Court Justice, Mary Odili.

 

The suspect Lawrence Ajodo had during interrogation confessed that Malami hired him as a Consultant.

 

The AGF who made this known in a statement issued by his spokesman Umar Gwandu described the suspect’s claim as a calculated attempt to stir unnecessary controversy.

 

Malami challenged security agencies to get to the root of the matter.

BAYELSA UNITED CRASHES OUT OF CAF CONFEDERATION CUP.

Bayelsa United was defeated 4-0 by Tunisian club CS Sfaxien in the second leg of their first-round tie of the CAF Confederation Cup, played on Saturday.
The Bayelsa State-owned team who won the first leg in Yenagoa last Sunday by a slim 1-0 victory have however crashed out of the continental campaign on 4-1 aggregate.
The Tunisian club scored all four goals in the first half.
Bayelsa United however put up a good fight after the break and resisted all attempts by the home team to increase the tally.
Nigeria’s other representative in the competition Enyimba will host Diambars of Senegal in Aba today.
The People’s Elephant won the first leg 1-0 in Dakar.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has moved to expel the ambassadors of 10 Western countries who appealed for the release of a jailed civil society leader.
Seven of the ambassadors represent Turkey’s NATO allies and the expulsions, if carried out, would open the deepest rift with the West in Erdogan’s 19 years in power.
Philanthropist Osman Kavala has been in prison since late 2017, charged with financing nationwide protests in 2013 and with involvement in a 2016 failed coup.
The envoys had issued a highly unusual joint statement on Monday saying the continued detention of Parisian-born activist Osman Kavala cast a shadow over Turkey.
The United States, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway and Sweden called for a just and speedy resolution to Kavala’s case.

SECURITY FORCES CAPTURE COLOMBIA’S MOST-WANTANTED DRUG TRAFFICEKR, DARIO ANTONIO USUGA

Security forces in Colombia have captured Dairo Antonio Usuga, the country’s most-wanted drug trafficker.
Better known as Otoniel, the leader of the Autodefensas Gaitanistas de Colombia or the Gulf Clan, was captured on Saturday in a rural area in the Uraba region.
President Ivan Duque hailed Otoniel’s capture as a victory, likening it to the arrest three decades ago of the notorious Colombian drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar.

The Commander of National Police in Colombia, Jorge Luis Vargas also gave an insight into how Otoniel was captured.

Authorities have been after Otoniel for years, killing allies, capturing family members and going after his finances.

Colombia had offered a reward of up to 800,000 dollars for information leading to his capture, while the United States had put a bounty of 5 million dollars on his head.

EXPLOSION IN UGANDA’S CAPITAL KAMPALA KILLED ONA AND INJURED FIVE

President Yoweri Museveni, says an explosion in Uganda’s capital Kampala, that killed one and injured five, was a terrorist act and promised to hunt down those responsible.
Police said the serious blast occurred at about 9 pm at a popular street-side restaurant strip in Kawempe division in Kampala on Saturday.
Museveni said he had been briefed that three people left a package at the scene that later exploded.
He said investigators were still combing the bomb site and more details would be released later, including advice for the public in dealing with these possible terrorists.

Oyo governor gave the warning while speaking during the wedding ceremony of the son of former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose in Lagos on Saturday.
Makinde warned Nigerians against carrying arms in defence of any politician, stressing that those who intend to die because of politicians should have a change of mind.
He also cautioned against politics of bitterness, noting that the presence of the Chairman, Nigerian Governors’ Forum and present Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi and erstwhile governor of Ekiti State, Segun Oni at the wedding, should serve as a lesson to Nigerians.

E-NAIRA SET FOR LAUNCH ON MONDAY.

In business, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has announced that President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday, October 25th, unveil the e-Naira.
This is according to a statement CBN spokesman, Osita Nwanisobi, who stated that the e-Naira is now expected to be activated on Monday by the president in a ceremony at the State House, Abuja.
You would recall that the CBN had on September 30th suspended the launch of its digital currency, to allow other events slated for the country’s 61st independence anniversary to take place.

Oyo Jail Break: Security Operatives Arrest Over 300 Inmates

Staying with security matters, Controller of Correctional, Oyo State Command, Noel Ailewon, has said more than 300 inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Abolongo, Oyo, in Oyo State, that escaped during the attacks have been recaptured.
He made the disclosure in an interview with journalists at the facility in Abolongo, on Saturday, saying profiling of the recaptured inmates and those that did not escape was ongoing.
According to him, the gunmen that attacked the facility stormed the place around 10 p.m on Friday, October 22, 2021, came in large numbers and they attacked the centre with sophisticated weapons.
