Nigerian Railway Workers’ Meeting with Minister of Transportation, Ends in Deadlock.

The Federal Government is making frantic efforts to stop the planned Three-day Warning Strike by workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (N.R.C).

The strike, which was to press home their demand for increased welfare packages has been slated to hold from Thursday, November 18th to November 20th.

Speaking to Newsmen after the meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Comrade Aliyu Mainasara clarified that the request by the Minister of Transportation that the workers suspend their planned strike before he can discuss on review of workers welfare were rejected by the workers.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the N.U.R, Comrade Segun Esan explained that the Minister of Transportation left the meeting before any meaningful meeting could be achieved.

ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS REJECTS ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION, CALLS IT MONUMENTAL FRAUD.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Anambra State, has described the recently concluded governorship election as a monumental fraud.

The State Chairman of the Party, Basil Ejidike, said this during a press conference in Awka, the State Capital, on Sunday while reacting to a statement credited to the erstwhile State Publicity Secretary, Okelo Mmadukaife, that the APC in the State has congratulated the Governor-elect and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Charles Soludu.

According to him, the party is law abiding and will never identify with illegality, brazen impunity and fraud and so will not congratulate the declared winner.

Ejidike, therefore, urged that such information should be totally disregarded.

Meanwhile, the Anambra State Chapter of the APC has sacked its Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife.

The State Chairman of the Party, announced this at a press conference in Awka, the Anambra capital on Sunday.

MINISTER OF FINANCE, ZAINAB EXPLAINS REASON FOR HIKE IN PRICE OF RICE.

Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed has described the activities of smugglers as the reason for the hike in price of rice in the Country, noting that these smuggling affect the economy of the nation adversely.

The Minister made this known to Newsmen, explaining that some unpatriotic Nigerians who want more profit, import substandard rice, as well as other goods and products banned by the government, into the country.

The Minister reiterated government’s efforts towards curbing the activities of smugglers, pointing out that the Nigerian Customs Service, the Police and the Department of State Services are collaborating to stop the illegal activities of those sabotaging the economy of the Nation.

SUPER EAGLES’ COACH, GERNOT ROHR SEEKS OPEN PLAY GOALS AGAINST CAPE VERDE.

Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, says he would love his players to score from open play in their next game against Cape Verde instead of scoring from the Penalty spot as was done against the Lone Stars of Liberia in Saturday’s game.

Speaking after the game, the German-born tactician admitted the Liberian defence was very tight which made it difficult for his players to penetrate through.

Rohr said the team will do their best to score from open play in their next game on Tuesday in Lagos.

Two goals from the penalty spot from Victor Osimehn and Captain Ahmed Musa in both halves of the game ensured victory for the Nigerian side against Liberia.

NIGERIAN UNION OF RAILWAY WORKERS, DECLARES THREE-DAY NATIONAL WARNING STRIKE.

The Nigerian Union of Railway Workers, an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress, has declared a Three-day National Warning Strike to press home its demands for improved welfare and standard conditions for its members.

The Union made this disclosure to the workers in a letter signed by the NUR President General, Innocent Ajiji, and other Excos.

According to the body, the workers will embark on the industrial action from November 18 to November 20, 2021.

According to the letter sent to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Fidet Okhiria, and the Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, the Labour Unions said their agitation for enhanced salary cannot be overemphasized complaining about the salary structures of the corporation.

Brigadier-General, Three Soldiers Killed As ISWAP Fighters Ambush Troops In Borno.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and three soldiers during a recent encounter with terrorists of the Islamic State of West Africa Province in Borno State.

Confirming the killings, Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said, the troops of Joint Task Force, North East ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ neutralized several ISWAP terrorists in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Brig-Gen Onyema Nwachukwu noted that the troops destroyed five a – jet combat trucks, two a-29 artillery weapons, two dragon combat vehicles and nine gun trucks.

He said the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen Faruk Yahaya deeply commiserates with the families and relations of the fallen heroes.

GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL PLANS TO ADD 10 ADDITIONAL A220-300 SERIES AIRCRAFT TO IBOM AIR FLEET.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel says that the State planned to add 10 additional A220-300 Series Aircraft to the fleet of Ibom Air.

Governor Emmanuel revealed the plan when he spoke at an event marking the 85th birthday of Obong Etim Abia, the Paramount Ruler of Eket in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The Governor also talked about his determination to ensure that quality was not compromised in the Eket Stadium project, the International Market project, Roads and other development programmes in the area.

He appealed for patience from Eket residents, while reassuring that all the projects would be delivered and appreciated long after his tenure.

PRESIDENT BUHARI JOINS OTHER AFRICAN LEADERS IN SOUTH AFRICA FOR 2ND INTRA-AFRICAN TRADE FAIR 2021.

President Muhammadu Buhari has joined other African Leaders in South Africa for the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Intra-African Trade Fair 2021, which takes place on Monday.

The President’s Spokesman Femi Adesina, confirmed this development in a statement on Saturday, in Abuja said the President left Paris, the French capital today.

Adesina said the event, billed for Nov. 15 to Nov. 21, aims at boosting Trade and Investments across the African Continent, while stressing that the event would also seek to create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive across the Continent.

He said this would bring to fruition the lofty ideas behind the creation of the AFCFTA, by providing a platform to further identify and proffer solutions to challenges militating against Intra-African trade.

President Buhari is expected back in Nigeria on Nov. 16, Adesina said.

SPEAKER FEMI GBAJABIAMILA DEFENDS POSITION ON DIRECT PRIMARIES.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has explained that direct primaries would bring more accountability and adequate representation.

In a statement by his Special Media Aide, Lanre Lasisi, the Speaker said with direct primaries, political office holders would not be restricted to pleasing a group of people selected as delegates.

He further noted that through direct primaries, political officers would work for the generality of their party members, and by extension the electorate.

INEC PRESENTS SOLUDO WITH CERTIFICATE OF RETURN

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Certificate of Return to Professor Chukwuma Soludo as the Winner of the Anambra State Governorship Election alongside his Deputy, Dr Onyekachi Ibezim, which was held on November 6 and 9.

The presentation took place at the INEC office in Awka, the Anambra State Capital.

Recall that Soludo was the Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) which is currently ruling the State with Governor Willie Obiano.

Meanwhile, Soludo polled 112,229 votes, thus defeating his closest rivals, Valentine Ozigbo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 53,807 votes; Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 43,285 votes and Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) who polled 21,261 votes.
