Jude Bellingham has been handed a two-match suspension after the Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) disciplinary committee upheld his red card from Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna on Saturday.
Real Madrid plans to appeal the decision, which would see the England international miss crucial La Liga fixtures against Girona and Real Betis.
Referee José Luis Munuera Montero sent off Bellingham in the 39th minute, with Madrid leading 1-0 at the time. In his match report, the referee stated that the midfielder had insulted him, leading to the dismissal.
Osasuna capitalized on the numerical advantage, with Ante Budimir scoring a second-half penalty, forcing Madrid to drop two vital points in the La Liga title race.
Both Real Madrid and Bellingham have disputed the referee’s account and have formally appealed the decision to the Spanish football federation’s technical committee, which oversees refereeing matters.
