Bayelsa Women Protest Herdsmen’s Excesses, Call for Government Intervention

Date:

Thousands of women from Okutukutu and Biogbolo communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have staged a massive protest, calling on the government and security agencies to address the excesses of herdsmen invading their farmlands.

The women, who took to the streets of Yenagoa, alleged that the herdsmen have destroyed their crops, raped several women, and killed many natives. They appealed for urgent and drastic measures to curb the activities of the herdsmen, which they described as a threat to their livelihoods and safety.

The protesters urged the state and federal governments to intervene and provide adequate security to protect their communities. They also called for justice for the victims of the alleged attacks and demanded compensation for the destruction of their farmlands.

The protest highlights the growing tension between farmers and herdsmen in the region, underscoring the need for a sustainable solution to the recurring clashes.
