Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has hinted at plans to investigate the reported sinking of $10 million into the state-owned newspaper, The Nigerian Observer, during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Governor Okpebholo made the announcement during an unscheduled visit to the premises of The Observer titles to inspect the facilities on the ground. The governor and his entourage were reportedly shocked when they were unable to gain access to the buildings housing the machines allegedly purchased by the previous administration.
The probe will focus on the management and utilization of the funds allocated to the newspaper under Obaseki’s administration. Key figures involved in the project include Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, and the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, Chris Osa Nehikhare, who also served as Commissioner for Communication and Orientation.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the management of state resources. The investigation aims to uncover the details of how the funds were spent and ensure that such projects deliver value to the people of Edo State.
