A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed October 13 for hearing an application by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, seeking to amend their suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku and the ADC are seeking the disqualification of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, over allegations concerning a National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The plaintiffs allege that the certificate bears the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle” rather than Bola Ahmed Tinubu and are asking the court to determine its authenticity and whether its submission affects Tinubu’s eligibility.
At Monday’s proceedings before Justice Inyang Ekwo, counsel representing the parties confirmed that relevant court documents had been exchanged.
Tinubu’s counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, informed the court that the President’s counter-affidavit had been served on the plaintiffs, while INEC’s counsel also confirmed the exchange of relevant processes.
Justice Ekwo subsequently adjourned the matter to October 13 for hearing of the application seeking to amend the originating summons and related processes.
The substantive allegations concerning the NYSC certificate and Tinubu’s eligibility remain before the court for determination.
