The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 18 chairmanship positions and 192 councillorship seats in the Edo State local government elections conducted on Saturday.
Announcing the results in Benin City, Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Jonathan Aifuobhokhan, said the elections were conducted in line with the Edo State Local Government Electoral Law and relevant electoral guidelines.
He said the electoral process, including accreditation, voting, sorting, counting, collation and declaration of results, was successfully concluded across the state’s 18 local government areas.
Aifuobhokhan described the exercise as generally peaceful, noting that although minor operational challenges were recorded in a few locations, they did not affect the credibility or outcome of the elections.
The EDSIEC chairman commended voters for their participation and appreciated Governor Monday Okpebholo for allowing the commission to operate independently.
He announced that certificates of return would be presented to the successful candidates on Monday and advised aggrieved parties to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels.
