Nigeria’s D’Tigress forward, Amy Okonkwo, has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket following her stellar performances throughout the tournament.
Okonkwo played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s 78–64 victory over Mali in the final, contributing 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists to secure the nation’s fifth consecutive continental title.
The 28-year-old has now claimed back-to-back MVP awards, having also won the honour at the 2023 edition in Rwanda. She becomes only the second Nigerian to achieve this feat, following Mfon Udoka’s MVP wins in 2003 and 2005.
Okonkwo averaged 14 points per game across the tournament. She also led all players in three-point shooting percentage (50%) and finished second in free-throw accuracy (87.5%).
