Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has insisted that the club’s long-term ambition of winning the Premier League remains unchanged, despite their disappointing elimination from the FA Cup at the hands of Fulham.
United, the reigning FA Cup champions, suffered a heartbreaking exit on Sunday after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout defeat at Old Trafford. The match had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of intense football, but Fulham held their nerve to advance, marking the earliest FA Cup exit for United as holders since the 1996-97 season when Sir Alex Ferguson’s team was knocked out by Wimbledon in the fourth round.
While acknowledging the frustration of the defeat, Amorim was firm in his belief that the club’s primary objective remains securing another Premier League title. “We are facing setbacks, but our long-term focus is clear. Manchester United is a club built on success, and our aim is to bring the Premier League title back. I cannot say how long it will take, but that remains our goal,” he stated.
United’s struggles this season have been evident, with the team currently sitting in 14th place in the league standings. With their FA Cup campaign over, their only remaining opportunity for silverware in the 2024-25 season lies in the Europa League. Despite the challenges, Amorim maintains that his squad remains committed to improving and competing at the highest level.
“We have to keep working hard and trust the process. The team is determined, and we know what we want to achieve,” Amorim added.
