Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to be sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury, ruling him out of key matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.
The 32-year-old Brazil international sustained the injury during last weekend’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, leaving the field late in the second half.
Tests have indicated that Alisson is unlikely to return before the next international break, potentially making his comeback in the away match against Southampton on November 24.
During his absence, Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the Crystal Palace match due to illness, is expected to take over in goal. Kelleher previously filled in when Alisson was out with another hamstring injury last season.
Following the victory against Crystal Palace, manager Arne Slot acknowledged the seriousness of the injury, predicting a lengthy lay-off for his first-choice goalkeeper.
He emphasized Alisson’s importance to the team, stating, “He’s clearly our number one; he’s the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he gets injured.”
Liverpool currently sits atop the Premier League with 18 points from seven matches, one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal.
