Cristiano Ronaldo’s club, Al Nassr, announced the departure of Portuguese coach Luis Castro on Tuesday, a day after their underwhelming 1-1 draw against Iraq’s Al Shorta in the AFC Champions League Elite campaign.
This result added to a sluggish start to their domestic season.
In a statement posted on X, Al Nassr said, “Al Nassr can announce that head coach Luis Castro has left the club. Everyone at Al Nassr would like to thank Luis and his staff for their dedicated work during the past 14 months, wishing them the best of luck for the future.”
Castro, 63, is the third coach to leave the Riyadh-based club since Ronaldo’s arrival in early 2023.
The legendary forward, who is under contract until next summer, has yet to win a domestic trophy with Al Nassr, despite securing the Arab Club Champions Cup last year.
The club’s rocky start this season, which includes two draws in three matches, has compounded pressure on the team.
Ronaldo’s presence has also drawn several high-profile signings to the Saudi Pro League, including Neymar and Karim Benzema.
