The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully neutralized a notorious kidnap kingpin and sea pirate, Ubong Archibong, alias “Condiment,” during a gun battle at his hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State.
Archibong, the leader of the “Bling Marine Strike Force,” was responsible for a series of violent crimes, including the kidnapping of High Court Judge Joy Unwana, the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet, and several other heinous acts.
Archibong’s criminal activities also included the gruesome killing of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd., the kidnapping of the company’s sales representative, and the abductions of Pharmacist Joemel and Brown, the CEO of Mingles Hotel.
During the operation, police recovered a G3 rifle with four live rounds of ammunition. Archibong’s body has been deposited at the morgue as investigations continue to apprehend other members of his gang.
In a related development, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended several suspects linked to the abduction and murder of marine hunters from the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Marine Security and Inland Waterways.
The tragic incident occurred on August 18, 2024, in Unyeghe village, Mbo Local Government Area.
Following the crime, a manhunt led to the discovery of shallow graves in the now-deserted village, where the remains of two missing marine hunters were found.
The suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended during the operation.
The marine hunters were part of a team dedicated to safeguarding the state’s waterways, underscoring the risks faced by those protecting these vital areas.

Speaking on these developments, the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, reassured residents of the state’s commitment to ensuring safety and security. He emphasized the importance of public cooperation in combating criminal activities and assured that the police are dedicated to serving with professionalism and integrity.
The suspects involved in the marine hunters’ case have been transferred to the state divisional headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia for further investigation, as the police continue their efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.
