A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment after convicting him on charges of money laundering and fraud involving ₦33.8 billion.

Mamman was found guilty on all 12 counts filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho ruled that the former minister would serve seven years imprisonment each on 10 counts, while counts four and five attracted three years and two years respectively.

The court ordered that the sentences run consecutively, meaning the prison terms will be served back-to-back. The judge also ruled that there would be no option of fine except on count four, which carries a ₦10 million fine option.

In addition, the court ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from Mamman, as well as four Abuja properties linked to him.

The ruling is regarded as one of the most significant anti-corruption convictions involving a former cabinet member in recent years.

The former minister had earlier been prosecuted over allegations bordering on money laundering and diversion of funds during his time in office.
