Cristiano Ronaldo has been handed a 30-day suspension and fined €255 by the Portuguese Football Federation for walking out on Portugal’s national team camp.
The federation says the punishment was imposed after Ronaldo admitted the facts underlying the disciplinary charges in a formal statement.
His admission and clean disciplinary record were taken into consideration, with the €255 fine representing the maximum allowed after mitigating circumstances were applied.
Ronaldo reportedly left the camp after accusing Portugal coach Jorge Jesus of breaking an agreement to play him during the recent Nations League fixtures.
The forward had featured in Portugal’s opening victory over Wales but remained an unused substitute in the win over Norway on September 27.
The suspension took effect on October 1, meaning Ronaldo has already served part of the 30-day ban.
The 39-year-old has the option to appeal but had earlier apologised for leaving the camp and acknowledged that he expected to face disciplinary action.
Ronaldo is expected to be available for Portugal’s next Nations League match against Denmark on November 14.
