President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, who died on Thursday in Cairo, Egypt.
The President extended his condolences to the monarch’s family, the Gumel Emirate Council, the government and people of Jigawa State, and the traditional institution in Nigeria.
Alhaji Sani II ascended the throne on December 16, 1980, and served for nearly 46 years as the 16th Emir of Gumel, making him one of Nigeria’s longest-serving first-class traditional rulers.
Before becoming Emir, he served in the Gumel Native Authority, Nigeria Immigration Service and Kazaure Divisional Office. He was also Commissioner for Information, Internal Affairs and Culture in the old Kano State between 1978 and 1980.
President Tinubu described the late monarch as a distinguished scholar, administrator and statesman who promoted education, Islamic scholarship, unity, cultural preservation and community development throughout his reign.
He also praised the Emir’s role in promoting peace and stability in Jigawa State, describing him as a respected traditional leader whose counsel contributed to national cohesion.
Tinubu prayed for the repose of the late Emir and for strength for his family, the Gumel Emirate and the people of Jigawa State.
