The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, is calling for stronger collaboration and proactive measures to reduce the impact of flooding as forecasts indicate an increased flood risk during the rainy season.
The appeal was made during a courtesy visit by the Head of NEMA’s Abuja Operations Office to the Deputy Governor of Kogi State in Lokoja, where both sides discussed strategies to strengthen disaster preparedness, emergency response coordination and flood risk reduction.
NEMA says effective disaster management depends on sustained collaboration among government agencies, security organisations, humanitarian partners, traditional institutions, the media and local communities.
The agency also emphasized the importance of continuous public awareness campaigns, timely dissemination of early warning information, pre-positioning of emergency resources and coordinated evacuation plans for vulnerable communities.
The Kogi State Government commended NEMA for its continued support through flood preparedness campaigns, emergency response interventions and capacity building programmes. It also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the agency to ensure at risk communities receive timely information and assistance throughout the rainy season.
