Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for impartial policing and strengthened security ahead of the state’s governorship election, following the recent visit of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor commended the Inspector-General’s fact-finding visit and urged the Nigeria Police Force to implement measures that will ensure fair, professional and non-partisan policing before, during and after the election.
Adeleke said residents expect security agencies to investigate and prosecute all cases of political violence without bias, regardless of political affiliation, to restore public confidence in the police.
He urged the police to hold officers accountable for their conduct and ensure that anyone found to have violated the law is arrested and prosecuted in line with due process.
The governor stressed that a peaceful and secure environment is essential for voters to freely exercise their democratic rights, calling on all security agencies to safeguard lives, property and the integrity of the electoral process throughout the election period.
