Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee for the maiden edition of the National Intermediate Games, tagged Lagos 2026.
The inauguration took place at Lagos House, Marina, where the governor charged committee members to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and commitment to ensure the success of the event.
Sanwo-Olu said the games would provide a platform for youth development and talent discovery across the country, while also promoting social inclusion, national unity, and the growth of sports.
The governor noted that the competition, scheduled for October 2026, is expected to bring together young athletes from different parts of Nigeria and contribute to the development of grassroots sports.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development and Co-Chairman of the committee, Mobolaji Ogunlende, thanked the governor for the opportunity and pledged the committee’s commitment to delivering a successful tournament.
Earlier, members of the committee, led by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, paid a courtesy visit to the governor and commended Lagos State’s efforts in advancing sports development in Nigeria.
The National Intermediate Games is expected to serve as a key platform for identifying and nurturing emerging sporting talents across the country.
