Cole Palmer and Phil Foden were among the notable omissions as Thomas Tuchel announced England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision comes despite both players playing key roles in England’s run to the final of UEFA Euro 2024.
Tuchel, who was appointed to lead England national football team in a bid to end the country’s long wait for major international success, said leaving out several players was a difficult process.
The former Chelsea FC, Paris Saint-Germain, and FC Bayern Munich manager explained that Palmer and Foden were omitted following inconsistent club seasons.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was also left out of the squad, while Ivan Toney earned a surprise recall after his move to Al-Ahli.
Other notable absentees include Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw of Manchester United.
Tuchel, however, included John Stones despite the defender enduring an injury-hit campaign with Manchester City.
England captain Harry Kane leads the squad, alongside key names such as Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Marcus Rashford.
England will begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia national football team in Dallas on June 17 before facing Ghana national football team and Panama national football team in the group stage.
