Pep Guardiola will step down as manager of Manchester City after a historic 10-year spell that transformed the club into one of Europe’s dominant football forces.
The club confirmed on Friday that Guardiola’s final game in charge will be Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Aston Villa.
During his decade at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola guided Manchester City to 20 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League crown.
Reflecting on his decision, Guardiola described the timing as right for him to move on after years of success with the club.
“What a time we have had together,” Guardiola said in a statement released by the club.

Despite stepping down as manager, Guardiola is expected to remain connected to the wider City Football Group as a global ambassador.
The Spaniard’s departure comes shortly after City lost the Premier League title race to Arsenal FC.
Reports have linked former Chelsea FC manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked under Guardiola at City, as a leading candidate to succeed him.
Before joining Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola enjoyed successful managerial spells with FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich, cementing his reputation as one of football’s most successful coaches.
