Barr. Wike Hails Supreme Court Ruling on Rivers Political Crisis

Date:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has hailed the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Rivers State political crisis as a victory for the rule of law. The apex court, on Friday, nullified the recent local government elections in the state and upheld the legitimacy of the 27-member Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly.

Speaking in Abuja after the judgment, Barr. Wike stated that the decision had effectively put an end to what he described as the reign of impunity in Rivers State. He emphasized that as the highest judicial authority in the country, the Supreme Court’s verdict must be fully respected and implemented.

The ruling nullifies the tenure of local government chairmen elected in a controversial process, leaving a leadership vacuum at the grassroots level. It also reinforces the authority of the Amaewhule-led Assembly, which has been at the center of the state’s political crisis.

Barr. Wike’s comments underscore the significance of the judgment in restoring constitutional order and ensuring accountability in Rivers State.
