FRSC Orders Investigation, Prosecution of Female Motorist for Assaulting Officer

Date:

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has initiated an investigation and prosecution process against a female motorist caught on video physically assaulting one of its personnel during duty.

The incident, recorded in a 1:25-minute online video, occurred at the Lekki Unit Command in Lagos State on November 7, 2024.

According to a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the woman was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla flagged for a seatbelt violation along the Oko-Ado Lekki-Epe Expressway.

The patrol team discovered that the vehicle’s papers had expired in December 2022, leading to its impoundment.

While the driver complied with the arrest, the female passenger reportedly became aggressive, verbally assaulting the officers before escalating to physical violence.

The video shows the woman punching an FRSC official and clutching his uniform, even as other personnel urged restraint.

Despite multiple efforts to de-escalate the situation, she continued her assault until the Unit Commander called on the Ajah Police Division for assistance. The police intervened and took both the woman and the driver into custody for further investigation.

The Corps Marshal condemned the assault, praising the professionalism and civility displayed by the Unit Commander, Chief Route Commander AM Usman, and his team throughout the incident.

He emphasized the need for road users to seek redress through appropriate legal or administrative channels rather than resorting to violence.

The FRSC has reiterated its commitment to securing justice in this case and warned against future assaults on its personnel, emphasizing that such actions would face strict legal consequences.
