The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a major blow to insurgents in the Lake Chad Basin, destroying a terrorists’ food depot and neutralising several fighters during airstrikes at Jubillaram in the Tumbuns area.
Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
He revealed that the operation, conducted on November 23, targeted a strategic location identified through thorough intelligence efforts.
The site was reportedly a critical food storage hub and a hideout for terrorist commanders and fighters, linked to recent attacks, including an assault on troops in Kareto on November 16.
“In response, NAF fighter jets launched a robust air interdiction mission, destroying structures used for storage and eliminating terrorists on-site. Mop-up operations using cannons ensured the complete elimination of fleeing hostile elements,” Akinboyewa stated.
He noted that the mission was enabled by extensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) efforts over several days, which confirmed the presence of camouflaged terrorist structures concealed under dense vegetation.
Akinboyewa added that the destruction of the depot has severely disrupted the insurgents’ logistical operations and diminished their capacity to carry out future attacks.
The NAF spokesperson reaffirmed the force’s commitment to defending the nation and supporting ground forces in counterterrorism operations.
“This mission underscores our resolve to bring all enemies of Nigeria’s peace and prosperity to justice,” he said.
