The Federal Government has pledged to upgrade equipment and facilities in Federal Science and Technical Colleges across the country as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the education sector. This reaffirmation was made by Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, during the inaugural Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Camp for female students in Akwa Ibom State.
Prof. Mamman emphasized the importance of technical colleges in equipping students with practical skills, highlighting the government’s plans to invest in modern machinery, tools, and resources. He described the initiative as essential to empowering the next generation of skilled workers and advancing vocational education nationwide.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Sani Gwarzo, noted that the camp aims to increase female participation in technical fields while contributing to poverty reduction and empowerment. He added that the government’s commitment extends to infrastructure improvements, increased access to quality education, and scholarships for girls pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), including TVET fields.
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, praised the Federal Government for choosing the state to host this significant initiative. She highlighted that empowering young girls through technical and vocational education is crucial for the state’s development. The two-week camp hosted 255 participants from 29 Federal Science and Technical Colleges, offering technical training, mentorship, and leadership development.
